highly reactive supplementary cementitious material (SCM)
The chemical reactivities of all Macrocement™ SCMs converted from recycled concrete, tunneling waste (shale) and BOF slag were evaluated by isothermal calorimetry, and it was shown that reactivity of all the SCM samples significantly exceeded the required reactivity threshold and they could be used as reactive SCMs for cement substitution in concrete production
The Macrocement™ SCMs converted from recycled concrete, tunneling waste (shale) and metal slagwere used for making & testing mortars with substitution levels of the cement 0% (control), 20%, 30% and 40%
and it was proved that the obtained SCMs can be used in concrete production with cement substitution level up to 40% without compromising fresh and hardened properties of the concrete and providing net savings of 260 kg of CO2 per a tonne of cement.
Calculated cost of the Macrocement™ SCMs is about $100/tonne, which is similar to the cost of standard SCMs, and will not increase the cost of blended cement.
