Ultra High Resistance Concrete for Blast/Ballistic Protection Barriers

  - Civil buildings and installations such as vulnerable community centers and threatened religious buildings, essential government offices (consulates, embassies, etc.), sensitive industrial installations, border crossings, vital asset protection rooms, shelters for civilians, and others.

- Military installations such as military shelters, defensive fighting positions, command positions, explosive storage cabinets, perimeter and checkpoint security, supplemental guardhouse security, structural / key infrastructure hardening, aircraft hangars, military bases, etc.

The MACROCEMENT™ protection panels may be used for erection of the barriers in the two above mentioned segments, or as add-on armor extra plates mounted onto existing barriers to endure weapons that can destroy the original barrier.

The current strategy for mitigating against threats from projectiles and blast is based on the concept of using fiber-reinforced ultra-high- performance concrete combined with a high volume of reinforcing bars. This approach provides high uniaxial compressive and tensile strength, which has become the foundation for designing modern barriers. However, under the highly concentrated forces resulting from projectile and blast impact, the concrete matrix and reinforcing bars resist projectile penetration independently with no synergy between the two.

MACROCEMENT™ has developed a concept of macro-reinforcing system of “dividing” the concrete matrix into isolated smaller fixed volumes and restraining the isolated matrix parts in such a way that the reinforcing elements create stringent confinement of the concrete. This concept increases dynamic fracture toughness, dynamic strength and ductility of the concrete, arrests cracks and maintains the fragments in place providing the highest possible projectile and blast protection
